“When you don´t have a word to say things, then you use stories”, says Alessandro Baricco. The idea of this film first came to me while accompanying my mother as she left this world. A very wise friend who also passed away later told me that this movie was an attempt to keep my mother alive. Maybe it is an attempt to transcend death, by failing to accept it. The loss of my parents, family members and close friends forced me to become aware of what they transmitted to me, to somehow try to honor their lives and thus keep their flame alive. Probably this is the essence and the main driving force of the film represented in Maria and Verónica, two characters with no apparent ties who connect spiritually through the umbilical cord that Thich Nhat Hanh talks about…That imaginary umbilical cord that connects us to everything: nature, food, the other… From that perspective one is no longer alone.
